PostgreSQL 8.4.x

New set of updates for Titanium will contain PostgreSQL 8.4.0. Be aware that upgrade will require full dump/restore procedure. It may as well need additional updates (structure, functions, etc.) depending on contents of your databases.

KDE 3.x

Today base KDE 3.x packages will be moved to “obsolete” FTP tree. Some applications may be moved there too (ie. Amarok). I decided to create “obsolete” tree instead of using “archive” to be sure these packages won’t disappear.

Archive FTP tree in Titanium

Starting from today all packages which are being moved to “main” (PLD) tree on FTP will have their previous version moved to new “archive” tree. This will allow quick downgrade in case of faulty upgrades.

Note: “archive” tree will not be added to default poldek configuration, you’ll have to add it yourself.

KDE 4.x in Titanium

In next few days all updates from ready along with few updates from test will be moved to main. After that KDE 4.x will be moved from test to ready and KDE 3.x will be moved away from main to archive tree. There will be no more updates or support for KDE 3.x.

Some xorg drivers have been removed

Following xorg drivers have been removed from PLD Titanium. Most of them were marked as deprecated/unmaintained by upstream. Other doesn’t compile or doesn’t work with xserver 1.6 which is now used by Titanium.

Gnome 2.26 and more

Another portion of updates will go to ready tree today. Not all deps are met yet, but I hope to resolve these issues ASAP. Most important ones are: Gnome 2.26, XFCE 4.6.1, readline 6.0 and udev 141. There are also minor updates of many other packages. Be sure to report any bugs found.

Next part of updates will contain Xorg 1.6, Mesa 7.4 and newer kernels (still from 2.6.27.x series). I’m also considering switch to KDE 4. It won’t be harmless, but must be done at some point I’m afraid.

Big updates in Titanium

Just letting you know. Some big updates will be performed in PLD Titanium in next few days. Most important ones are Python 2.6 and Perl 5.10. Please be careful when using ready or test tree.

Samba problems

After two days of testing I didn’t noticed any problems with Samba 3.2.8… It had to be pure luck as now it segfaults same way as Samba 3.3.1 on my machines. Unfortunately this buggy version made it already to main tree of PLD Titanium. I’ve sent working version 3.2.5 to test tree so you may easily fix your systems by doing downgrade, but remember that version 3.2.5 has security bugs.

Thanks for so called stable software being released by more and more OS projects. Ehh… life… no one said it’ll be easy.
